The Golden Olive Award - from the BBC's 'Olive' MagazineThe dynamic behind Scotland-based Caledonian Connoisseur is a small team of committed foodies who want to promote Scotland's finest wild, fresh, free-range or organic produce. Their partners include farmers and butchers, family-run smokehouses, artisan cheesemakers and bakers who still use old-fashioned techniques. Caledonian Connoisseur deserves our Golden Olive for its wonderful Tuesday Fish Market. All fish sold by the online company is sourced by Willie Little, whose contacts with fishermen mean that he buys direct from the boats and has access to the best of the days catches (he can even tell you the name of the boat that landed your catch, if you're interested). All the latest catches go on the Caledonian Connoisseur website at 12 noon every Tuesday and you can order direct from the site, www.caleyco.com, or call 01573 227 310. Orders can be placed until 12 noon the next day and the fish is then delivered to you fresh anywhere in the UK on Friday. All the fish sourced by Caledonian Connoisseur is delivered from Perth or Scrabster and is prepared individually to order. If you're ordering langoustines, lobster or oysters, be aware that they will be delivered live unless you ask for the langoustines or lobsters to be cooked. © BBC Olive Magazine, April 2007.
